Four coaches of Karmabhoomi Express catch fire in Punjab
All passengers on the train travelling from Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri escaped unhurt after the blaze near Patiala.
Four coaches of the Karmabhoomi Express caught fire near Sarai Banjara in the Patiala district of Punjab on Friday, according to Telangana Today. The train was travelling from Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal when the incident occurred.
Ambala Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vinod Kumar Bhatia said the fire was reported between the Rajpura and Sadhu Garh railway stations. He stated that the train crew noticed a drop in pressure and automatic chain pulling (ACP) before bringing the train to a halt.
The DRM noted that while the fire initially affected one coach, strong winds caused it to spread to a total of four coaches. All passengers were evacuated and the affected coaches were isolated to stop the fire from spreading further.
A Government Railway Police official reported that the fire erupted in a general coach on the Rajpura-Sirhind railway section. The official said that passengers were later accommodated in another train and no injuries were reported.
The DRM confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident. He added that the control room regulated and controlled trains on the other line once the guard provided information about the fire.
