CIK raids six locations across Kashmir in terror recruitment probe
The Counter Intelligence Kashmir wing searched premises in Budgam, Srinagar, Anantnag and Pulwama regarding an alleged online recruitment network.
The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police searched six locations across the Kashmir valley on Friday. According to reports by the Kashmir Observer and The Pioneer, the searches were conducted in connection with a terror recruitment case involving social media platforms.
The operations took place at residential houses in Budgam, Srinagar, Bijbehara, Mattan in the Anantnag area, and a village in Pulwama district. The CIK carried out these searches alongside local police and revenue officials, with executive magistrates present during the process.
One of the searched premises was the home of 22-year-old Mohammad Yaseen Mir in Srinagar's Sheikh-ul-Alam Colony. Investigators are looking into his family connections, noting that his mother, Tabasum Shaheen, a Pakistani national, travelled to Pakistan on April 29 last year and has not returned.
Another search was conducted at the residence of Peerzada Anayat Ullah Shah in Magam's Agrikalan village in Budgam. During the raids, officials reportedly seized documents and digital devices to check for links to cross-border handlers.
The investigation relates to FIR No. 07/2023 at the CIK Srinagar Police Station. It concerns an alleged module using social media to radicalise and recruit youth into proscribed terrorist organisations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Officials stated the probe follows inputs that individuals in Pakistan, allegedly working with LeT handlers, used online platforms to instigate youth against the country's sovereignty and integrity.
