Jake Paul backs Chennai to host Goyat vs Pettis boxing match

The MVP co-founder expressed interest in Chennai during a press conference in Hyderabad for the January 2027 bout.

Neeraj Goyat and former UFC champion Anthony Pettis met face to face at a press conference in Hyderabad on November 6. The event is being organised by the Indian Pro Boxing League (IPBL), the Indian Boxing Council (IBC), and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) ahead of their match on January 23, 2027.

According to reports from The Tribune and ANI, MVP co-founder Jake Paul sent a surprise video message during the event. Paul stated he is keen on bringing the fight to Chennai, noting that Muhammad Ali fought at the same venue 47 years ago in January 1980.

The IPBL confirmed that Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Chennai are all candidates to host the match. Akshar Madhavaram, CEO and Co-Founder of IPBL, said the final city, venue, and ticketing details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Neeraj Goyat, who is the first Indian boxer signed to MVP, said that while he respects Pettis as a legend of the cage, he believes no one can beat him in an Indian boxing ring.

Anthony Pettis, a former UFC lightweight champion and IPBL co-owner, said he wants to provide a platform for Indian fighters. He added that Goyat will find out what fighting world champions means on January 23.

Vivek of the IBC stated that every bout on the card is sanctioned to the WBC standard. The fighters are scheduled to meet again in a cage at the Indian Fight League event in Hyderabad tonight.
