Janice Tjen and Magda Linette to face off in Chennai Open final

The top-seeded Indonesian and the third-seeded Pole secured victories on Saturday to reach the singles final at the WTA 250 event.

Janice Tjen and Magda Linette secured their places in the WTA 250 Chennai Open singles final on Saturday at the SDAT Stadium in Nungambakkam, according to Sportstar. Tjen, the top-seeded Indonesian and World No. 75, defeated USA’s Robin Montgomery 6-3, 6-4 to extend her winning streak to nine matches.

Montgomery, the 22-year-old World No. 151, managed to break Tjen’s serve in the first set, but the 24-year-old Tjen eventually won the set. Tjen saved a break point in the second set before securing a decisive break and winning the match on a 13-shot rally.

Tjen said that playing in an environment with firecrackers bursting in the background was not easy as players are used to quiet settings. She added that knowing about the fireworks in advance from the supervisor helped her try to tune it out.

Magda Linette, the third-seeded former World No. 19, defeated Russia’s Anastasia Zakharova 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in her third three-set match of the week. Linette, who was the runner-up in the 2022 edition, used the pace of Zakharova's shots to redirect the ball after losing the first set.

Zakharova, the World No. 107, played aggressively but lacked the consistency to mount a comeback during the one-hour and 55-minute match.
