Rajat Patidar named Madhya Pradesh captain for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru leader may miss part of the tournament due to his selection for the India A team.

Rajat Patidar has been appointed as the captain of Madhya Pradesh for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which begins on November 14, according to Telangana Today.

Patidar, who led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to IPL titles in 2025 and 2026, might not be available for the full league phase. He and all-rounder Arshad Khan are set to join the India A squad for the Men's Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha, Qatar, from November 19 to 29.

In the India A side, Patidar will serve as deputy to captain Tilak Varma. The Madhya Pradesh squad includes wicketkeepers Harsh Gawli and Apoorv Dwivedi, while fast bowler Avesh Khan will lead the bowling attack alongside Mangesh Yadav, Kumar Kartikeya Singh, Saransh Jain, and Shivang Kumar.

Pacer Kuldeep Sen was excluded from the squad due to an unspecified injury. Seam-bowling all-rounder Madhav Tiwari also missed out on selection despite playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026.

Madhya Pradesh is placed in Elite Group C and will play their first four matches in New Chandigarh, starting with a game against Kerala on November 14. The team will then face Assam, Tripura, and Andhra before moving to Mohali for matches against Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and Puducherry.

If Patidar departs the squad after the Assam match, the team management under Chandrakant Pandit will have to select a replacement captain for the rest of the tournament.
