Soham Varshneya late goal secures Bengaluru FC win against FC Goa

Bengaluru FC defeated FC Goa 2-1 in Fatorda amid refereeing disputes during the closing stages of the match.

Bengaluru FC secured a 2-1 victory over FC Goa in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 on Friday at Fatorda. Soham Varshneya scored the winning goal in the final minutes of the match, according to Sportstar.

The match saw several controversial decisions in the closing stages. Aashique Kuruniyan received a yellow card near the 90-minute mark for an infraction that halted an attacking play. FC Goa players also appealed for a penalty when Ricky appeared to nudge Shamsanga from behind, but the referee denied the request.

Further dispute arose when a throw-in was awarded to Bengaluru FC after Sana Singh cleared the ball, a decision contested by the home team. Following this play, Kuruniyan moved inside from the left to assist Varshneya, who scored with a left-footed shot.

Goa defender Sandesh Jhingan expressed frustration with the officiating after the game. Jhingan questioned the frequency of significant errors and noted that goalkeeper Bob Jackson was booked during a protest regarding the disputed throw-in.

Jhingan told broadcasters that the referee's decision to keep his flag down forced his team into a defensive position while they were attempting to push forward. He added that the officiating made his players hesitant to tackle for fear of penalties.
