Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale reach Chennai Open doubles final

The Indian duo made history on Saturday by becoming the first all-Indian pair to qualify for a WTA Tour doubles final.

Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale secured a spot in the women’s doubles final of the Chennai Open 2026 on Saturday, November 7. According to The Hindu, the Indian pair defeated second seeds Weronika Falkowska of Poland and Alana Smith of the USA in a semifinal match.

The match lasted one hour and 31 minutes, with Adkar and Bhosale winning 6-2, 2-6, 10-8. The Indian players overcame a mid-match slump and a 3-0 deficit in the deciding super tie-break to clinch the victory.

This result marks the first time an all-Indian combination has reached a doubles final at the main Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour level. While Shikha Uberoi and her sister Neha reached finals in 2005, Neha represented the USA, making them an Indo-American pair.

During the second set, Adkar required a medical timeout for her strapped left thigh. The Indian pair had previously won their quarterfinal match with a 7-5, 6-4 scoreline against Montgomery and Jodie Burrage of Britain.

Adkar sealed the win with a forehand down the line after Bhosale and Adkar fought back from a 6-8 deficit in the tie-break.
