Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale enter first all-Indian WTA doubles final in Chennai
The Indian pair defeated Weronika Falkowska and Alana Smith in a super tie-break to make history at the Chennai Open.
Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final after defeating Weronika Falkowska of Poland and Alana Smith of the USA on Saturday. The match, held at the SDAT Tennis Stadium during the 2026 Chennai Open, ended 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 in favour of the Indian duo.
According to reports from The New Indian Express, Sportstar and The Bridge, the second-seeded Polish-American pair led 3-0 in the deciding super tie-break before the Indians fought back. Adkar sealed the victory with a forehand down the line after Bhosale helped reduce the deficit with a forehand winner.
The match saw a shift in momentum during the second set when the Indian pair suffered a dip in level. Adkar required a medical timeout to treat a left thigh injury, which had also affected her during her singles second-round match. Bhosale also dealt with illness during the tournament.
Rutuja Bhosale, 30, said that the pair had no idea they were the first Indian pair to reach such a final and that it is something she will always remember. Adkar, 21, noted that it is the last Tour-level event in India and expressed gladness that they could make the best of it.
The Indian pair will face the Swiss duo of Naima Karamoko and Simona Waltert in the final on Sunday. Karamoko and Waltert advanced after defeating Isabelle Haverlag and Panna Udvardy 6-4, 6-4.
