Imphal West and Pherzawl reach Surakshit status under HIV plan

The two Manipur districts met the 95-95-95 HIV targets under a national mobilisation initiative in October 2026.

Imphal West and Pherzawl districts in Manipur attained ‘Surakshit’ status in October 2026 under the National AIDS Control Organisation’s Mobilization for AIDS Suraksha initiative, according to The News Mill.

Health and family welfare commissioner and Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) president Sumant Singh said the status indicates the achievement of the 95-95-95 HIV targets.

Singh explained that 95 per cent of estimated people living with HIV in these districts are aware of their status, 95 per cent of those people receive antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 95 per cent of those on ART have reached viral suppression.

Speaking at a felicitation programme in Mantripukhri on November 6, 2026, Singh noted that this is the first time MACS has seen districts reach this status.

Chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh congratulated the two districts and told health department officials to aim for the same status in the rest of Manipur.

The event at the Cabinet Hall of the chief minister’s office included officials such as chief secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur and MACS project director Anna Arambam.
