Paddy arrival in Punjab's mandis has exceeded 152 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), while procurement has passed 150 LMT, according to Daily Excelsior. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak announced these figures on Friday regarding the current Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27.
The minister said the high numbers show that farmers trust the efficient procurement system of the Punjab Government. He noted that paddy procurement in the state began on October 1.
Lifting has surpassed 110 LMT, with the percentage of lifting within 72 hours of procurement reaching 84.65 per cent. Kataruchak said the government is focusing on speeding up lifting to keep mandis clear for new arrivals and to prevent farmer inconvenience.
Payments totaling Rs 33,000 crore have been transferred to the accounts of farmers. The minister stated that the government will purchase all grain produced by farmers and ensure payments are made within the required timeframe.
The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department is coordinating with transporters, the Mandi Board, and procurement agencies. This coordination aims to maintain uninterrupted procurement, prompt payments, and timely lifting.
