The Food Safety Department collected 40 samples during inspections of dairies and sweet shops across several parts of the city.
Food safety teams in Delhi destroyed nearly 100 kg of food material deemed unfit for human consumption during intensified inspections ahead of Diwali, according to The Hindu.
The Food Safety Department inspected sweet shops, dairies, and manufacturing units in North-East, East, Shahdara, South, and South-East Delhi.
During the drives, officials collected 40 samples of various products for testing. In North-East, East, and Shahdara, 22 samples were taken, including items such as ghee, paneer, khoya, and various sweets.
At a Mandoli Extension dairy, inspectors found milk containing flies and mosquitoes, alongside rasgullas and khoya that emitted a bad odour.
In South and South-East Delhi, 18 samples were collected from 12 establishments. This included products like barfi, chhana, and skimmed milk powder. Officials also investigated a sweet manufacturing unit in Nihal Vihar that was operating without Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed the department to conduct regular inspections and take strict legal action against violators. She stated that food adulteration and poor hygiene are serious public health concerns and that the government will not tolerate negligence.
