Kashmir-linked outfit claims responsibility for Ghaziabad police outpost blast

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad is investigating a possible terror angle after a group claimed responsibility for the Friday night explosion.

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) is investigating an explosion that occurred outside the Vasundhara police outpost in the Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad around 9pm on Friday. According to the Times of India, a little-known Kashmir-linked outfit claimed responsibility for the blast through a social media post.

The explosion caused damage to the outpost, including cracked walls, damaged air-conditioners, and shattered windowpanes. No police personnel were injured in the incident, though a 20-year-old food delivery executive named Vishal sustained minor injuries while passing by. He is reported to be stable.

An X account named "Ghazi-2" circulated a claim on behalf of an outfit called Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen Hindustan. The group allegedly released a video of a masked individual claiming the attack targeted the police. The social media account was reportedly deleted shortly after the posts appeared.

Investigators are examining whether an explosive device was thrown from the adjoining 35-foot-high elevated road towards the outpost. A suspicious Delhi-registered scooter was also found near the scene. A team led by DIG Abhishek Yadav is conducting a joint probe with forensic experts and the bomb disposal squad.

Security agencies are scrutinising whether the claim is connected to the ISI-Bhatti network. Sources familiar with the probe said the outfit bears similarities to networks allegedly linked to Pakistan-based operative Shehzad Bhatti. The ATS is also analysing CCTV footage from the elevated corridor and surrounding areas.

Forensic teams have collected samples from the site to determine the exact nature of the explosion. Officials stated that all angles, including accidental ignition and sabotage, remain under examination as the area remains cordoned off.
