Chennai Open women's singles final postponed due to rain and smog

The title match between Janice Tjen and Magda Linette will now be held on Monday at 11 am IST.

The women's singles final of the WTA 250 Chennai Open was postponed to Monday, November 9, after rain and poor air quality disrupted play at the SDAT Tennis Stadium on Sunday, according to reports by India Today, Sportstar and News18.

The match between top seed Janice Tjen of Indonesia and third seed Magda Linette of Poland was originally scheduled for a 6:30 pm IST start. While the women's doubles final was completed without interruption, the singles match faced three delays due to rain.

Organisers initially planned to start the match at 9 pm once the court was dried, but the play was called off due to smog caused by Diwali firecrackers. The WTA stated that the final was postponed due to unforeseen weather conditions and will now take place at 11 am on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, the Swiss duo of Simona Waltert and Naima Karamoko won the women's doubles title by defeating India's Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale 6-2, 6-0. Adkar and Bhosale became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final.

The tournament has faced recurring weather issues, including a complete washout on the opening day of the main draw. The Tamil Nadu Tennis Association announced that spectators with valid tickets for Sunday's play may enter the venue on Monday using the same tickets.
