The Indian duo became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final during the tournament.
Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale lost the doubles final at the Chennai Open 2026 WTA 250 tournament on Sunday, according to ANI and The Tribune. The Indian pair was defeated 6-2, 6-0 by Switzerland’s Naima Karamoko and Simona Waltert at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Nungambakkam.
The loss ended a historic run for Adkar and Bhosale, who made history as the first all-Indian doubles team to qualify for a final at a WTA Tour-level event. Before the final, they beat the second-seeded Polish-American duo Weronika Falkowska and Alana Smith 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 in the semi-finals.
Their path to the final included a 7-5, 6-4 quarter-final win against British-American players Jodie Burrage and Robin Montgomery. They also defeated fourth seeds Madeleine Brooks and Amelia Rajecki of England 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16.
In the singles category, teenager Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi exited in the quarter-finals on Friday. Revathi became the first Indian since Sania Mirza in 2012 to reach the final eight of a singles draw at a WTA Tour-level event.
Revathi also played doubles with Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, reaching the quarter-finals after defeating third seeds Aneta Kucmova and Aneta Laboutkova of Czechia. They were later beaten by the Dutch-Hungarian pair Isabelle Haverlag and Panna Udvardy.
Olympian Ankita Raina and Japan’s Hiroko Kuwata were eliminated in the opening round of the doubles event, losing 6-1, 6-1 to Gabriella Da Silva-Fick of Australia and Zhibek Kulambayeva of Kazakhstan.
