DRI seizes amphetamine worth Rs 5.32 crore from bus in MP
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted a suspect at a toll plaza while he was travelling from Delhi to Bhopal.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested an alleged drug trafficker and seized amphetamine worth Rs 5.32 crore from a bus in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, according to The New Indian Express.
Acting on intelligence that a suspect was travelling from Delhi to Bhopal, officials intercepted the man at the Sonkatch Toll Plaza in a district near Bhopal. A search of his light brown duffle bag uncovered three silver-coloured plastic packets containing 6.642 kg of a crystalline white substance.
Field tests confirmed the substance was amphetamine. The accused was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Officials also recovered Rs 48,400 in cash, which the man reportedly admitted was proceeds from drug trafficking.
The suspect was a repeat offender who was already out on bail in another NDPS case registered by the Bengaluru Police.
In separate operations, the DRI seized crystalline methamphetamine worth Rs 7.32 crore from a man at Bhopal's Inter-State Bus Terminal on October 20. On September 21, the agency also arrested a Nigerian woman in Indore for allegedly carrying drugs valued at approximately Rs 1.19 crore.
