Kozhikode health department issues warning over dengue risk

Health officials have launched a 'Dry Day' campaign to combat mosquito breeding following intermittent rainfall in the district.

Health authorities in Kozhikode have advised the public to take strict measures against dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases following intermittent rain in the district, according to The Hindu.

The health department warned that stagnant water from recent rains provides breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, which are the primary vectors for dengue.

To combat this, the department has introduced a ‘Dry Day’ campaign. Special cleaning drives will take place in schools on Fridays, while government and private offices will conduct maintenance on Saturdays.

On Sundays, officials will inspect households to destroy potential breeding sites. Residents are advised to check their surroundings weekly and ensure water storage containers are tightly covered, drained, and scrubbed.

The authorities noted that Aedes mosquitoes mostly bite during the day. They stated that mosquito control is a shared responsibility for every individual, family, and institution.

People experiencing fever, intense headaches, or severe body ache should visit a hospital. Health officials cautioned against self-medication or waiting for symptoms to go away.
