J&K Bank announces recruitment for 1,356 posts amid calls to raise age limit

Aspirants and a PDP legislator have requested the bank to increase the maximum age to 40 years and prioritise merit.

Jammu and Kashmir Bank on Friday announced a recruitment drive for 1,356 positions, including 323 probationary officers and 1,033 banking associates, according to The Economic Times.

The online application window opens on November 7 and remains open until November 26, 2026, with the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducting the examinations.

Applicants must hold a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university. The bank has restricted eligibility to Jammu and Kashmir domiciles, who must provide a valid domicile certificate.

Selected employees must work in their initially assigned zone for at least five years, during which no transfers outside that zone will be allowed. The current age limit is set between 20 and 30 years as of January 1, 2026, with relaxations for reserved categories.

People's Democratic Party (PDP) legislator from Pulwama Waheed Para said the 30-year age cap is unfair to many overaged aspirants. He also claimed that applying reservation policies in the commercial institution undermines meritocracy for local youth.

Para demanded that the upper age limit be increased to 40 years and that reservation in the recruitment be revoked. On social media, aspirant Sufi Tahir requested the Managing Director of J&K Bank to revise the age limit to allow for wider participation.
