Jeff Bezos says AI productivity could enable three-day workweeks
The Amazon founder suggested that artificial intelligence may allow individuals to support their families while working fewer days.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos believes artificial intelligence could lead to a period where people opt for shorter workweeks while maintaining their livelihoods, according to a Times of India report.
Speaking to Fox News, Bezos said that gains in productivity from AI might allow workers to earn sufficient income with much less time spent on the job.
He stated that some people might decide they can provide for their families by working only three days a week, noting that this is what economic productivity means.
Bezos suggested that increased productivity could lead to labour shortages rather than mass unemployment, as families might no longer require two earners to maintain their standard of living.
While expressing optimism about the technology, Bezos noted that investors face challenges in identifying which companies will succeed during this period of heavy investment.
Amazon is currently investing billions of dollars into data centres and cloud-computing capacity to support the demand for artificial intelligence services.
