Karnataka Cabinet approves recruitment of 1,000 doctors

Health Minister UT Khader said the state will also procure 350 new ambulances and resolve medicine shortages within two months.

The Karnataka Cabinet has approved the hiring of 1,000 doctors to bolster the state's healthcare infrastructure, according to ANI and The News Mill.

Health Minister UT Khader announced the decision during a press conference in Ballari on Sunday. He stated that 250 doctors have already been appointed through direct recruitment.

Khader said that until the full recruitment process is finished, districts have permission to hire medical staff on an outsourced basis. He also noted that all staff at Primary Health Centres must be on duty.

The Minister added that the state is working to resolve medicine shortages within two months and is taking steps to purchase 350 new ambulances.

In a separate matter, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay for cooperation regarding the proposed Mekedatu balancing reservoir. Shivakumar said the state is following the Supreme Court of India mandate to release 177 TMC of Cauvery water annually to Tamil Nadu.

Shivakumar stated that the reservoir would benefit both states and mentioned that the state has identified 5,400 hectares of forest land for compensatory afforestation to meet environmental requirements.
