Nearly 100 people fall ill after eating street food in UP

The food poisoning outbreak occurred in two Siddharthnagar district villages after residents consumed pani puri and tikki.

Nearly 100 people, including children, women and elderly residents, fell ill after consuming pani puri and tikki from a street vendor in Siddharthnagar district, according to The Times of India.

The incident was reported from Pedari and Kalnakhor villages under the Khesraha police station limits after a vendor visited the area on Friday evening.

Affected villagers reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea within hours of eating the food. Many patients were rushed to Madhav Prasad Tripathi Medical College for treatment.

Dr Bilal Ahmed, who is posted in the emergency ward of the medical college, said approximately 35 to 36 children were among those admitted. He noted that three children were initially in critical condition but have since become stable.

Siddharthnagar Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Sanjay Dohre visited the villages and said preliminary information suggested the vendor might have used leftover boiled potatoes and other ingredients. However, the CMO stated the exact cause of the food poisoning is yet to be confirmed.

The CMO added that no deaths have been reported and the situation is under control. Health department teams from the Khesraha Community Health Centre (CHC) and Uska Bazar area have been deployed to provide medical assistance.
