Russian drone strikes Ukrainian rescue workers in Zaporizhzhia region

A drone attack targeted emergency crews performing search operations at a site where a previous airstrike killed at least 55 people.

A Russian FPV drone struck emergency workers conducting search and rescue operations in the village of Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region, on Sunday, according to the Times of India.

The State Emergency Service (SES) said the attack damaged specialised rescue equipment, though no personnel were injured in the strike.

The incident occurred at the site of a November 2 airstrike that killed at least 55 people. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russian forces of deliberately targeting the site, describing the act as "absolute cynicism and brutality."

The initial attack on November 2 hit a former school being used as a shelter and humanitarian aid distribution centre. Ukraine's military intelligence agency reported that around 50 people remained missing as of November 7.

Among those killed in the November 2 strike were six emergency and police personnel, including two SES workers and four police officers. Three residents were also laid to rest in Zaporizhzhia on Saturday.

Ukrainian officials have previously accused Russian forces of using a "double-tap" tactic, which involves successive strikes on the same location to hit responders arriving after an initial attack.
