Former Manhattan fire station sells for $19 million in New York
The 7,281-square-foot West Village property features five levels and a private underground jazz club.
A former Manhattan fire station located at 78 Morton Street in New York’s West Village has sold for $19 million, according to the Times of India. The transaction was recorded on February 5, 2026, involving a buyer identified through a limited liability company.
The historic property was originally built in 1864 for the Howard Engine Company No. 34, a volunteer firefighting unit. The building served the neighbourhood for over a century before it was decommissioned in 1975.
Converted into a single-family townhouse in 2012, the five-level residence includes a private jazz club on the lowest level with a performance stage and decorative murals. The home also features a four-car garage, a private elevator, and more than 2,000 square feet of outdoor space including a garden and rooftop terrace.
The property was previously listed for $21 million in April 2025. The seller had acquired the building in 2020 for approximately $19.92 million and performed extensive interior renovations, including the installation of a custom kitchen and original artwork.
