Bengal BJP MLA injured in attack by party workers in West Midnapore

Subhasis Om was admitted to hospital after an assault allegedly involving party workers over an extortion feud at Debra on Monday evening.

West Bengal BJP MLA Subhasis Om was admitted to Debra Super Speciality Hospital after suffering head injuries during an assault on Monday evening. The incident occurred at Debra in West Midnapore, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

The legislator, who represents the Debra seat, was allegedly attacked by his own party workers while protesting a feud involving extortion. Some of Mr Om's aides were also injured in the attack and have been admitted to the same hospital.

Mr Om alleged that trouble broke out in the area regarding extortion and that some party workers wanted to lodge a case against others. He said he went to the spot and told them not to take such a step because they belong to the same family, but an attack happened because of his protest.

Ghatal BJP organisational district president Tanmoy Pal visited Mr Om at the hospital. Mr Pal suggested the issue could have been resolved internally through a party meeting instead of speaking out in public.
