Woman seeks justice after daughter was shot dead by Iranian security forces

Samira escaped Iran on foot after her 16-year-old daughter was killed during protests in Tehran.

A woman named Samira is seeking to identify the security officials responsible for the death of her 16-year-old daughter, Sevda, during protests in Tehran, according to BBC News.

The teenager was shot on 9 January while participating in demonstrations on the outskirts of the capital. Samira said a sniper fired from a rooftop, hitting the girl in the heart.

The protests began the previous month due to economic issues and grew into demands for the end of the Islamic Republic. Samira stated that a shoot-to-kill order was announced the day after she and Sevda responded to a call for demonstrations by Reza Pahlavi.

Samira said authorities hindered her efforts to find her daughter's body and that she faced harassment. She eventually escaped Iran on foot and is now living in hiding abroad.

The Iranian embassy in London told BBC Panorama that peaceful protests were hijacked by foreign powers, including the US, which promoted violence and provided equipment.

Iranian authorities have acknowledged that more than 3,000 people were killed during the protests, though they claim some of those killed were members of the security forces.
