Delhi Police ACP suspended for leading protest at headquarters

Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashishta was suspended for violation of discipline following a demonstration by police personnel.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashishta has been suspended for violation of discipline, according to Delhi Police sources reported by The Hindu on Tuesday. Vashishta led a group of approximately 100 police personnel in a protest outside the Delhi Police headquarters on Monday morning.

The demonstration was held to demand a meeting with Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar. Protesters sought the reinstatement of Vashishta and Arun Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahdara police station, who were recently transferred.

The transfers occurred following an October 23 altercation at the Shahdara police station involving an advocate, Lalit Bansal, who allegedly suffered a head injury. District court lawyers had launched an indefinite strike, claiming that Vashishta and Kumar threatened advocates regarding the handling of the assault case.

During the protest, personnel raised several demands, including a standard operating procedure for lawyer confrontations and a limit on the number of lawyers allowed in a station at once. They also requested a dedicated cell at headquarters to manage complaints against lawyers.

Vashishta, who previously served as Sub-Divisional Police Officer in Gandhi Nagar, had been moved to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children. Kumar was transferred to the Security Branch. The lawyers ended their strike once the transfer orders were released.
