The Telugu Desam Party secured 53 votes in the mayoral contest by 8:50 am on Tuesday as counting commenced at Andhra University.

Counting for the second general election of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) started at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. According to ANI, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) led in eight wards, while the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) led in five, Jana Sena in two, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in one, and an Independent candidate in one ward.

By 8:50 am, the TDP had obtained 53 votes in the mayoral contest. The YSRCP had 29 votes, Congress had two, and other candidates had 31 votes. Postal ballot counting for wards 23, 43, 56, and 89 was finished by 8:30 am.

The counting process, which began at 8 am, is being overseen by District Collector and Election Officer M. Abhishikth Kishore, Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi, and GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg. Officials accessed the strong rooms at 6 am with candidates and election agents present.

The university has set up 113 counting halls and 1,507 tables across its North and South campuses. Around 5,000 personnel are on duty, supported by three-tier police security to ensure transparency.

Ward member results will be announced immediately after each ward's counting ends, while the final mayoral result will follow the completion of all ward counts. This follows elections held on November 1 for 92 urban local bodies across Andhra Pradesh.
