BJP workers protest milk price hike in Karnataka
Protesters in Mandya accused the Congress-led state government of burdening consumers while failing to provide direct aid to farmers.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers held a protest in Mandya, Karnataka, on November 3 against the state government's decision to increase milk prices by Rs 8 per litre, according to The News Mill.
Led by BJP leader CT Manjunath, the demonstration took place at Mahaveer Circle. Protesters distributed milk, curd, and roses to the public and carried placards mocking the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
The protesters described the Congress administration as a 'Pickpocket Government' and claimed the price hike reflects misgovernance. They alleged the government is enacting a drama of helping farmers by increasing prices instead of using the treasury to provide aid.
The protesters stated that previous milk price increases did not benefit farmers and warned that people would teach the government a lesson in the coming days.
The Karnataka government announced the price increase on October 29. Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the decision to increase milk prices by up to Rs 8 per litre followed discussions regarding drought conditions and farmer protests over sugarcane prices.
Gowda emphasised that the government has a responsibility to support farmers, noting that many depend on dairy farming for their livelihoods.
