Debra MLA Shubhasish Om hospitalised after BJP clash over local fair
The injury occurred during a party meeting at Bali Chowk following a dispute regarding the management of a community event.
Debra MLA Shubhasish Om was hospitalised after being attacked during a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) meeting at Bali Chowk on November 3, according to The News Mill.
The incident occurred in the Debra block of Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, during a meeting concerning the distribution of forms.
Somen Mishra, the BJP Ghatal Organisational District Executive Member, said the MLA is in stable condition but remains under medical observation.
Mishra stated the conflict arose from a proposal by Om to involve the entire Bali Chowk community in organising a local fair to ensure transparency.
Mishra alleged that certain individuals sought to monopolise the event for extortion purposes and attacked the MLA while he was speaking against them.
In a separate development, former West Bengal minister Indranil Sen was detained by the Kolkata Police Detective Department in October regarding alleged financial irregularities linked to MassArt.
