Harish Dwivedi sets 2028 poll agenda for Karnataka BJP
The newly appointed in-charge of the party's Karnataka affairs focused on election preparations and organisational strength during meetings on Monday.
BJP National General Secretary Harish Dwivedi, who has been put in charge of the party’s affairs in Karnataka, held meetings with office-bearers and core committee members on Monday to discuss the 2028 Assembly election.
According to the Deccan Herald, Dwivedi noted that less than 18 months remain before the 2028 elections. He stated that there are challenges ahead and emphasised that sustained campaigns must continue before the upcoming elections under the panchayats and the Greater Bengaluru Authority.
BJP State President B Y Vijayendra said Dwivedi discussed public anger against the Congress government, citing recent Legislative Council election results as evidence of anti-incumbency. Vijayendra also noted that Dwivedi asked Karnataka BJP leaders to work for the party's interests and avoid cronyism.
Dwivedi, a two-time Lok Sabha member and former president of the Uttar Pradesh BJP Yuva Morcha, is scheduled to participate in a party foot march at Kolar on Tuesday. The march is part of the ‘Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy’ campaign against the Congress agitation regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Separately, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar is slated to lay the foundation stone for developmental works in Hiriyur on Tuesday. This follows the death of MLA D Sudhakar, making a bye-election in the constituency due.
Vijayendra said the Hiriyur bypoll may be announced at any moment. He added that the BJP needs to discuss fielding a consensus candidate with JD(S) Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
