Bihar: Police officer kills one and injures three in Madhubani

Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandramohan Singh has been suspended and is currently absconding after allegedly firing at villagers in Balirajgarh.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly shot at villagers in Balirajgarh village under the Babubarhi police station in Bihar's Madhubani district on Monday night, according to Telangana Today.

The firing resulted in the death of 50-year-old Ashok Yadav, who died during medical treatment. Three other villagers, identified as Dhanik Lal Yadav, Phulo Devi, and Vijendra Yadav, sustained injuries and were referred to a hospital for advanced care.

SSP Yogendra Kumar said the officer, Chandramohan Singh, had allegedly been visiting the house of a local resident frequently due to an illicit relationship with a woman in the village. It is alleged that when a neighbour noticed the ASI in the house, she bolted the door and raised an alarm.

The SSP stated that the ASI allegedly fired three to four rounds from his service pistol to protect himself from the villagers who had gathered at the spot. Singh, who was posted at a local police picket, has been suspended with immediate effect and is currently absconding.

Police are registering an FIR including murder charges and have formed two special teams to arrest the officer. The incident has also brought Singh's previous service record under scrutiny, as he was allegedly involved in a firing incident in Benipatti a few months ago.

Senior officials have inspected the crime scene and met with the injured families. Investigations into the exact sequence of events are ongoing.
