Nine arrested after BSF personnel attacked in Tripura's Ashabari

Police conducted an overnight operation following the assault on three security personnel in the Boxanagar area.

Police have arrested nine people in connection with an assault on three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Ashabari area of Tripura, according to ANI. The incident occurred on Monday morning in the Boxanagar area, causing local tension.

Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma said the arrests were made during an overnight operation. He stated that the accused would be produced in court on Tuesday and assured that those still absconding would also be arrested.

The attackers reportedly tried to take weapons from the wounded officers and damaged a government vehicle. The assault followed an alleged altercation between residents and the BSF 49th Battalion near the Ashabari Border Outpost.

Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the violence, describing the assault as unacceptable. In a post on X, the Chief Minister said that violence against security forces would not be tolerated and directed authorities to take swift legal action.

The Superintendent of Police noted that the Director General of Police is personally monitoring the investigation. He added that the BSF Inspector General has arrived in the area and held a meeting with police authorities.
