Delhi Police ACP Manasvi Vashishta suspended for violation of discipline
The suspension follows a protest led by the officer outside the police headquarters on Monday regarding recent transfers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashishta has been suspended for violation of discipline, according to Delhi Police sources reported by The Hindu on Tuesday. Vashishta led approximately 100 police personnel in a protest outside the Delhi Police headquarters on Monday morning.
The protest was held to demand a meeting with Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and the reinstatement of two officials. Vashishta and Arun Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Shahdara police station, were recently transferred following a clash with lawyers at the Shahdara police station.
The dispute began after an October 23 altercation at the Shahdara police station where an advocate allegedly sustained a head injury. District court lawyers launched an indefinite strike, alleging that Vashishta and Kumar had threatened advocates regarding the handling of the assault case involving Lalit Bansal.
During the protest, Vashishta stated that the personnel had placed their demands before the Commissioner and that the issues were being discussed. The protesters sought a standard operating procedure for confrontations with lawyers and the registration of FIRs against lawyers allegedly involved in misconduct.
Following the transfer orders, the lawyers called off their strike. Vashishta, who was serving as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Gandhi Nagar, had been moved to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children, while Kumar was moved to the Security Branch.
