Delhi Police personnel protest transfer of two officers

Around 100 personnel demonstrated outside the Delhi Police Headquarters on Monday following a scuffle with lawyers in October.

Around 100 Delhi Police personnel protested outside the Delhi Police Headquarters (PHQ) on Monday following the transfer of two officers. According to The Indian Express, the demonstration began at 8.30 am outside Gate No. 1 in response to the transfer of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar.

The transfers followed an October 23 incident where an advocate allegedly sustained a serious head injury during a scuffle. Vashistha, who held charge of the Shahdara and Gandhi Nagar subdivision, stated that lawyers barged into his office while he was counting his rounds and that he immediately handed his weapon to the armoury incharge.

Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and other senior officers met with the protesters at the Adarsh Auditorium around 11.45 am. During the meeting, Vashistha raised concerns regarding the treatment of police personnel in courts and requested increased security and the formation of a redressal committee.

ACP Vashistha said after a second round of talks with Joint CP Nupur Prasad that the top brass would look into reversing his transfer order. He stated that the main agenda was to hold a Sampark Sabha to share issues with officials and claimed he was assured no action would be taken against those who protested.

The protest continued until the evening, with personnel moving to a footpath near the YMCA bus stand to avoid disrupting traffic. The demonstration occurred ahead of an interaction programme scheduled by LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu with Delhi Police personnel on Tuesday.
