Nadakkavu overbridge should open temporarily before Kalpathy festival, says action council
The Nadakkavu Overbridge Action Council has requested authorities to allow light vehicles and pedestrians to use the Akathethara-Nadakkavu bridge.
The Nadakkavu Overbridge Action Council has urged authorities to temporarily open the Akathethara-Nadakkavu overbridge for pedestrians and light vehicles ahead of the Kalpathy car festival in Palakkad, according to The Hindu.
The council stated that nearly 95 per cent of the construction work is complete, with only the installation of safety railings for pedestrians remaining. They said keeping the bridge closed during the festival would cause inconvenience to motorists and local residents.
The group demanded that the bridge be opened temporarily after making necessary traffic regulations and safety arrangements, rather than waiting for all remaining work to be finished. They also called for the installation of speed breakers on both sides of the bridge to reduce accident risks.
Petitions seeking action have been submitted to the District Collector and the Chief Minister. The demand was announced during a press conference attended by council convener K. Sivarajesh, general secretary K.A.
Ramakrishnan, and patrons M.V. Ramachandran Nair and M. Sivanarayanan.
