Devon Conway ruled out of first ODI against India due to concussion

New Zealand batter Devon Conway will miss the series opener after colliding with Matt Henry during a training session at Eden Park.

New Zealand batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the first ODI against India after being diagnosed with a concussion, according to Sportstar. The injury occurred on Tuesday during a training session at Eden Park when Conway collided with pacer Matt Henry while attempting an aerial catch.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) stated that Conway was taken to A&E for further examination, which confirmed the concussion. Both players received immediate medical attention and underwent head injury assessments on-site. NZC said both players will continue to be monitored and their involvement in the series will be updated in due course.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner said at a pre-match press conference that the collision did not look good and that Conway had been rushed off-premises. Santner indicated that Tim Seifert, the back-up batter in the squad, would likely be a direct replacement for Conway.

Conway joins Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra on the list of players missing the five-match series due to hamstring and shoulder injuries. Henry is also returning from a low-grade tear in his right quadriceps that caused him to miss the last three T20Is.

The first ODI is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at Eden Park in Auckland. India, who recently won the T20I series 3-2, will begin the ODI leg of their tour with Shubman Gill leading the side for the first three games.
