PM Modi assures Maharashtra farmers of all possible assistance during drought

The Prime Minister also virtually inaugurated the 23.2-km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 in Pune.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday promised farmers in drought-hit Maharashtra that the Union government will provide all possible help during the crisis, according to the Hindustan Times. He stated that the central government stands firmly with them.

Speaking after the virtual inauguration of the Pune Metro’s Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Line 3, Modi said the state government has given advance aid and the central government has deposited PM-Kisan funds. He urged people nationwide to support farmers during the festival season.

In Maharashtra, the state government has authorised an advance of ₹5,000 for eligible farmers in drought-affected regions while crop-loss assessments are being finalised. Under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, eligible farmer families receive ₹6,000 in annual financial aid through three direct benefit transfer instalments.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 23.2-km elevated Metro Line 3, which connects the Hinjewadi IT hub to Shivajinagar. Passenger services on this corridor, also known as the Pink Line, are scheduled to start at 6am on November 4.

The project, built at an estimated cost of ₹8,313 crore, will be operated entirely by women train operators. In its initial phase, services will run across 17 of the 23 stations.

Modi also laid the foundation for Pune Metro Phase II, which includes four proposed corridors with an estimated cost of around ₹13,500 crore.
