Jabalpur man's organs donated to five patients after road accident

The family of Narendra Rajak consented to organ donation after he was declared brain-dead following a vehicle collision.

A family in Jabalpur decided to donate the organs of Narendra Rajak after he was declared brain-dead following a road accident, according to Bhaskar English.

Rajak, a resident of Nav Nivesh Colony in Ganganagar, was hit by an unidentified vehicle while returning from Kuankheda on December 31. Although his family stated he usually wore a helmet, he was not wearing one at the time of the accident.

Following his admission to Metro Prime Hospital, doctors declared him brain-dead. His wife, Pooja Rajak, and other family members gave consent for the donation of his eyes, skin, liver, and two kidneys.

The heart could not be used for transplant as medical examinations determined it was not suitable. A five-member medical team from Ahmedabad, including cardiac surgeon Dr Nikunj Vyas and liver transplant surgeon Dr Vikas Patel, arrived via a chartered aircraft to assist.

To ensure timely transport, the administration established two green corridors. One route linked Metro Prime Hospital to Dumna Airport via Abdul Hameed Square, while the second connected the hospital to Jabalpur Medical College via the Rani Durgavati Flyover.

At approximately 4 am, the liver was transported to the airport for a flight to Ahmedabad. One kidney was sent to Jabalpur Medical College, while the other remained at Metro Prime Hospital for a transplant.
