National Conference accuses Aga Ruhullah of political opportunism and betrayal
The party targeted the Srinagar MP after he resigned from the National Conference and his Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday.
The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday launched a counterattack against Srinagar Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Ruhullah Mehdi following his resignation from both the party and his parliamentary seat. According to reports from ThePrint, the NC accused Ruhullah of hypocrisy, political opportunism, and betraying the party that shaped his career.
Ruhullah announced his resignation during a rally in Budgam on Tuesday, which marked the 26th death anniversary of his father, Aga Syed Mehdi. The NC described his speech at the rally as a manifestation of "mental and moral bankruptcy" and "self-obsession."
The party alleged that Ruhullah used "derogatory, abusive and unparliamentary language" against the NC leadership. The NC further claimed that Ruhullah only chose to resign after being directed to do so by party president Farooq Abdullah.
Questioning his parliamentary record, the NC asked if Ruhullah had ever moved a resolution or introduced a Bill to restore special status or statehood. The party noted that while he mobilised support for an impeachment motion against a judge, he had not made similar efforts for Jammu and Kashmir's constitutional rights.
The NC maintained that its push for the restoration of statehood would not come at the expense of special status. The party stated that protecting the identity and constitutional rights of Jammu and Kashmir remains the foundation of its 90-year-old political legacy.
