Revanth Reddy directs officials to hold regular talks with Maharashtra on barrage
The Telangana Chief Minister instructed the irrigation department to negotiate increasing the height of the proposed Tummidihatti barrage across the Pranahita river.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed irrigation department officials to conduct regular negotiations with the Maharashtra government regarding the height of the proposed Tummidihatti barrage. The meeting, attended by Minister for Irrigation N.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, focused on increasing the structure's height across the Pranahita river, according to The Hindu.
The Chief Minister told officials to prepare comprehensive details regarding areas that might be submerged if the barrage reaches a height of 152 metres or its full reservoir level (FRL). He stated that all necessary documents, including existing agreements, must be shared with the Maharashtra government.
This directive follows a recent discussion in Mumbai between the Chief Minister and Maharashtra's Devendra Fadnavis. The two leaders discussed raising the barrage height to 152 metres to allow water to flow via gravity to backward districts such as Adilabad.
Reddy informed officials that the Telangana government is ready to pay sufficient compensation for lands in Maharashtra that may be underwater. He added that the state is also prepared to deposit funds into a joint account held by both state governments.
The Chief Minister noted that Telangana will not oppose any surveys conducted by Maharashtra to assess submergence areas. He ordered officials to provide all requested information to Maharashtra in a timely manner.
Irrigation Advisor Adityanath Das, Secretary E. Sridhar, and Engineer-in-Chief O.V. Ramesh Babu were among the senior officials present at the meeting.
