SUCI(C) protests milk and curd price hikes in Mysuru

The party also opposed a proposed increase in bus fares, citing the financial burden on commuters and dairy farmers.

Members of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) [SUCI(C)] held a protest near Ramaswamy Circle in Mysuru on Tuesday to oppose rising costs for dairy products and public transport.

According to The Hindu, SUCI(C) district secretary B. Ravi stated that Nandini milk prices would rise by ₹8 to ₹12 per litre, while curd prices would increase by ₹14.

Ravi claimed these changes would create a financial burden for middle-class and poor families. He also questioned the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) claim that higher revenue would help dairy farmers, alleging a gap between KMF selling prices and payments to producers.

The party urged the government to provide subsidised veterinary medicines, fodder, and cattle feed to assist farmers. They also opposed a proposed bus fare revision, noting that commuters are already facing high transport and essential commodity costs.

SUCI(C) questioned using rising diesel prices as a reason for fare hikes while ₹5,600 crore under the Shakti scheme remains pending. The protesters demanded the government roll back the dairy price increases and withdraw the bus fare proposal.

Umadevi M. and Chandrashekar Meti were among those who addressed the gathering during the protest.
