Maharashtra vehicle owners confused by registration renewal alerts
Transport officials say they have not received formal guidelines to handle vehicles being moved to a permanent archive status.
Vehicle owners across Maharashtra have received alerts stating their registrations will be placed in a permanent archive because insurance and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates were not renewed for a long period, according to Urban Acres.
The messages, sent in the name of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, include vehicle registration numbers and direct recipients to contact their Regional Transport Office (RTO).
The alerts state that using a vehicle that fails to meet the requirements of the Motor Vehicles Act is a legal offence.
Transport Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar said the administration has not received any official guidelines or procedures from the Union ministry regarding this matter.
One vehicle owner, Ramesh Salvi, said he visited an RTO office but was told that no official procedure for reactivating a vehicle had been received.
Owners remain uncertain about whether they can still renew certificates or if they must pay fees to restore their registration status.
