The Food Safety Department conducted an inspection at Mori Gate Khoya Market on Tuesday to ensure food quality during the festive season.
The Food Safety Department of the Delhi government seized and destroyed approximately 7,000 kg of unhygienic and foul-smelling khoya at Mori Gate Khoya Market on Tuesday, according to The Hindu.
This action brings the total quantity of khoya destroyed by the department to 10,660 kg. Previous destructions included 2,830 kg on September 4, 610 kg on September 8, and 520 kg on October 23.
During the inspection, 35 out of 44 khoya samples failed preliminary tests at the ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ mobile testing facility. An official statement said these tests revealed information regarding milk powder, vanaspati, and binding substances.
Two additional samples have been sent to a laboratory for detailed examination and further investigation into the ingredients used. The Food Safety Department has been conducting sustained drives against food adulteration for the festive season.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government would not compromise on public health and that ensuring access to safe food is a foremost responsibility. She stated that those involved in food adulteration will face strict action regardless of their influence.
