Delhi ACP Manasvi Vashistha suspended after police headquarters protest
The Ministry of Home Affairs suspended the officer after he led a demonstration against the transfer of two police officials.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha has been suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) following a protest by police personnel at the Delhi Police headquarters, according to The Times of India.
The suspension, ordered on November 2, follows a demonstration on Monday where approximately 100 to 150 police personnel, including women officers, gathered to demand the reinstatement of Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar.
The protest was triggered by the October 28 transfers of Vashistha, who was moved from Gandhi Nagar to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC), and Kumar, who was moved from Shahdara police station to the security unit.
The transfers followed an October 23 confrontation at the Shahdara police station involving lawyers, after an advocate, Lalit Bansal, allegedly sustained a serious head injury during a scuffle.
Lawyers accused Vashistha and Kumar of misbehaviour, with allegations that the ACP brandished his pistol during the dispute.
Vashistha, who led the demonstration, described the mobilisation as an organic call by police personnel and stated that an application had been submitted to present grievances to senior officers.
