Odisha: Police arrest 12 members of interstate burglary gang
Authorities recovered gold and silver ornaments valued at over Rs 88 lakh following the arrest of the group in Khurda and Nayagarh.
Police in Odisha have apprehended 12 alleged members of an interstate burglary gang and seized gold and silver jewellery worth more than Rs 88 lakh, according to Urban Acres.
Khurda superintendent of police Smit Parmar said the group is linked to 15 theft cases in the Khurda and Nayagarh districts since May 2025. The accused hail from the Khurda, Puri, and Ganjam districts.
The recovered items consist of approximately 500 grams of gold ornaments and 11 kg of silver jewellery. Of the 15 cases, 13 were registered under the Tangi, Nachuni, Banapur, and Balugaon police station limits, while two were reported from Chandapur in Nayagarh district.
The gang reportedly targeted jewellery shops and residential buildings during late-night hours. In a recent incident on October 28, shop owner Niranjan Patra alleged that burglars broke through a 10-inch rear wall to steal Rs 5 lakh in cash, 400 grams of gold, and nearly 13 kg of silver.
Parmar stated that the operation involved technical surveillance, intelligence gathering, and the analysis of the gang's operating patterns. He noted that teams examined crime patterns and coordinated across several police units.
Investigators are currently conducting a financial probe and checking for links to similar burglaries in nearby districts. Police are also working to identify more associates and find remaining stolen property.
