Nine arrested after attack on BSF personnel in Tripura's Ashabari

Police arrested nine people following an assault on Border Security Force personnel in Sepahijala district on Monday.

Police arrested nine people, including three women, following an overnight operation related to an attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Tripura's Ashabari area on Monday, according to The Federal and Deccan Chronicle.

The incident occurred in the Sepahijala district after personnel detained a person, identified as Hefzur Rahman, suspected of involvement in smuggling activities. The attack involved a group of villagers who allegedly assaulted three BSF jawans, including an assistant commandant, and vandalised a government vehicle.

Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma said on Tuesday that the arrested individuals would be produced in court. He added that ten more people have been identified for their involvement but are yet to be arrested.

The attack reportedly involved attempts to snatch service firearms from the security personnel. The BSF Tripura Frontier Inspector General Princee Rani visited the village to evaluate the situation after the assault.

Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the violence on Facebook, stating that acts against security forces are "completely unacceptable" and must be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.

The Director General of Police is personally monitoring the investigation, which follows directives from the Chief Minister and the Home Department to ensure stringent action against the accused.
