Delhi border traffic jams continue as emission checks slow commuters

Police screening vehicles for emission compliance at the Ghaziabad border caused congestion for Delhi-bound commuters on Tuesday.

Commuters heading to Delhi faced slow traffic at the Ghaziabad border on Tuesday as police conducted vehicle emission compliance checks for the second consecutive day, according to a report by The Times of India published by Moneycontrol.

Traffic on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and NH-9 was less severe than on Monday, but commuters still experienced delays during the morning rush. Police are screening vehicles at six locations along the Ghaziabad-Delhi border, including Loni, Seemapuri, Tulsi Niketan, and areas near the UP Gate and Media House.

ADCP (Traffic) Varun Singh told TOI that police checked 192 vehicles on Tuesday and turned back 38 vehicles from entering Delhi. He stated that traffic personnel are posted at all six points round the clock in two shifts, running from 8 am to 8 pm and 8 pm to 8 am.

The checks, which have been in force since November 1, involve verifying motorists' documents, registration details, and pollution certificates. Similar congestion has been reported at the Delhi-Gurugram border since the checks began on Sunday.

Some residents have attempted to carpool to reduce the number of cars on the road. Sonu Kumar, a resident of Crossings Republik, told TOI that four people working in central Delhi now share a car and take turns driving to locations such as Connaught Place and Mandi House.
