UP labour department directs factories to set up grievance redressal systems
State labour commissioner Saumya Agarwal urged industrial establishments to resolve worker complaints internally to prevent disputes and improve industrial relations.
The Uttar Pradesh labour department has instructed industrial establishments to implement effective grievance redressal systems within factories to resolve worker complaints at the institutional level, according to the Hindustan Times.
State labour commissioner Saumya Agarwal issued these instructions on Monday while meeting with industrialists and representatives of industrial organisations in Greater Noida. She emphasised that workers should be able to raise issues and receive timely resolutions without needing to approach external authorities for every matter.
The department is focusing on strengthening industrial relations and ensuring compliance with statutory provisions and new labour codes across industrial establishments in the Gautam Budh Nagar district. Agarwal also advised employers to maintain continuous communication with employees to prevent industrial disputes and to provide accurate, verified information to stop rumours.
This move follows workers' unrest in Noida regarding wage payments and statutory benefits. In April, the labour department started proceedings against 203 contractors across 24 factories for alleged labour-law violations, seeking payment of more than ₹1.16 crore in dues and benefits.
To assist workers, the department has expanded its redressal mechanism by establishing dedicated call centres and issuing four helpline numbers. Additionally, Agarwal requested entrepreneurs to use the Nivesh Mitra portal for registration as part of an effort to improve the ease of doing business.
