Ghanaian mother travels to US to seek justice for son's death
Doris Adu Gyamfi was granted an emergency visa by President Donald Trump following the fatal shooting of her son in New York.
Doris Adu Gyamfi has departed Ghana for the United States after being granted an emergency visa by President Donald Trump. She is travelling to seek justice for her son, Javits Frimpong, who was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York, last Thursday morning.
The 15-year-old boy was shot while on his way to school and later died at a local hospital, according to BBC News. Frimpong had been living in the United States for one year.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that the President agreed to issue the visa immediately so that Gyamfi could say goodbye to her son. Mamdani noted that the loss of a child is a hardship no parent should face from such a distance.
Police are currently searching for three teenage suspects who were captured on surveillance footage fleeing the scene. No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
The Ghanaian government has condemned the killing and said it is monitoring the case to ensure justice is served. The government also stated it is prepared to offer consular and legal support to help catch those responsible.
