Mustafizur Rahman to make Big Bash League debut with Melbourne Renegades

The Bangladesh left-arm pacer joins the team as a replacement for Jason Behrendorff, who is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is set to make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut after signing with the Melbourne Renegades, according to ANI.

The 31-year-old joins the squad to replace Jason Behrendorff, who cannot play any more games this season because of a shoulder injury. Mustafizur has played 331 T20 matches globally and taken 423 wickets, though he has not played in the BBL before.

Mustafizur will be unavailable for the Renegades' first match against the Perth Scorchers in Chennai because of his ILT20 commitments. He is expected to play at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on January 1 against the Sydney Sixers and on January 4 against the Melbourne Stars.

In a club statement, Mustafizur said he is looking forward to his first BBL appearance and feels it will be special to play at the MCG. Renegades coach Luke Ronchi described the pacer as a proven match-winner who can take wickets during the powerplay and at the death.

The veteran seamer joins other international players Jonny Bairstow and Michael Bracewell in the Renegades squad. This signing follows Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf joining the Adelaide Strikers.
