Maharashtra seize 64-run lead against Bengal at Eden Gardens
Tanay Sanghvi's unbeaten 57 helped the visitors reach 207/9 on the second day of their Ranji Trophy match.
Maharashtra reached 207/9 to take a 64-run lead against Bengal on Tuesday during the second day of their Round 4 Ranji Trophy match at Eden Gardens, according to Telegraph India.
The visitors' lower order provided resistance after Bengal had reduced Maharashtra to 102/7 by lunch. No. 8 batter Tanay Sanghvi, who scored 57 not out, shared a 49-run partnership with Pradeep Dadhe, who is currently 22 not out.
Bengal's bowling attack included senior pacer Mohammed Shami, who took 3/36, and Shahbaz Ahmed, who finished with 3/34. While Mohammed Kaif and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal started well, the bowling lost effectiveness after lunch as the pitch eased up.
Left-arm spinner Pradipta Pramanik was unable to provide necessary support to Ahmed. Play did not resume after Tea due to fading light, leaving Maharashtra in a strong position at stumps.
Bengal, who scored 143 in their first innings, must break the final wicket pair early on Wednesday to avoid mounting pressure on their batting group.
